While,

CGPA is the abbreviation of cumulative grade point average. Unlike SGPA, which is semester-specific, CGPA is the overall grade point average throughout all semesters for academic years.

It is calculated using the weighted mean of the grade points earned over each semester or year of the course. A student’s CGPA provides a comprehensive picture of their overall academic performance over the course duration.

It is imperative that students comprehend the difference between them. They both serve as markers of intellectual achievement, but they serve different purposes.

Use:-

SGPA is widely used to access student’s performance throughout a given semester, which is useful for identifying areas of strength and improvement.

While CGPA is used in comprehensive evaluations such as those for job placement, grants, and higher education.

Scope:-

The SGPA is solely considers a student’s performance over a single semester. Providing a limited perspective. In contrast, a student’s CGPA provides a comprehensive examination of their entire academics performance during the course.

Impact:-

To enhance the CGPA, better performance in later semesters might compensate for a poor SGPA from the preceding semester.
